Contents and connections before removal
The amount and condition of remaining oil affect how the tank is prepared. Reusable oil, contaminated liquid, water and sludge may need different handling, and connected pipework should be identified before disconnection.
Where the tank supplies heating or other equipment, the changeover and isolation need to be completed by the people responsible for that system. Electrical, fuel and other connections that could affect the removal must be made safe.

Removal access and surrounding work
A tank may leave as a complete unit when access and lifting arrangements allow. Restricted routes, enclosure within a building or a buried position can require a different removal method.
The work should distinguish the tank from its base, pipework and any affected ground. Removing the vessel does not establish that a historical leak has left the surrounding soil uncontaminated.
Residual hazards after emptying
An apparently empty tank can still contain residue or vapour capable of creating a serious hazard during cutting or grinding. Cleaning or a past gas test is not automatic permission for later hot work; the dismantling method needs its own competent assessment and controls.

Yes. The approximate contents and tank capacity help define emptying and residue handling. Do not disturb uncertain contents to obtain a volume estimate.
Can an old tank be cut up on site?
The method depends on its material, residues, atmosphere and location. Cutting must not start simply because the tank appears empty.
Does removal include the concrete base and contaminated soil?
The concrete base, pipework and any ground investigation or remediation are separate items unless included in the work.
Does removal include the remaining oil?
The contents and their destination are included in the agreed plan. Any reusable oil is assessed separately from contaminated liquid and sludge.
Will you remove every connected pipe?
The agreed work identifies redundant lines and any equipment that remains in use. Connections are not assumed redundant simply because they reach the old tank.
