Water Tank Cleaning

Water tank cleaning removes sediment and other deposits from building-service and process-water storage.

Water Tank Cleaning enquiry

Water tank cleaning removes accessible deposits from storage used for building services or process systems. The method is selected for the tank construction and the way the water is used.

Sediment and internal surfaces

Visible deposits and accessible surfaces determine what needs attention during the cleaning work.

Water supply arrangements

Isolation, temporary supply needs and the intended use of the water influence the cleaning plan.

Tank deposits and system condition

Sediment, scale and visible contamination call for physical cleaning, while damaged covers, screens or insulation may indicate maintenance problems that cleaning cannot correct.

Poor turnover, stagnation or unwanted ingress can affect the wider system. Removing deposits from the tank does not redesign pipework or resolve the cause of those conditions.

Cleaning, disinfection and isolation

The tank needs suitable isolation, drainage and access arrangements for cleaning. Where entry would be required, non-entry methods should be considered first and any necessary entry needs the appropriate confined-space controls.

Disinfection, flushing and sampling are separate activities. Whether they are needed depends on the system assessment and the reason for the work, rather than a universal cleaning interval or automatic treatment rule.

The tank within the wider water system

A clean tank is only one part of water-system control. Connected pipework and outlets are not treated unless they are included in the relevant work, and one cleaning visit or sample does not replace the continuing assessment and control of the system.

Water Tank Cleaning: common questions

Does cleaning always include disinfection?

They are different activities. The system assessment and reason for cleaning determine whether disinfection is needed and how it should be carried out.

Will the water supply need to be shut off?

The tank usually needs an agreed isolation and drainage arrangement. The effect on the building depends on its supply layout and any suitable alternative provision.

How often should a water tank be cleaned?

The interval should follow the tank condition, inspection findings and the water-system risk assessment. A single timetable does not suit every installation.

Does tank cleaning also treat connected pipework?

Not automatically. The tank and connected system are different parts of the installation, and any pipework treatment must be included and carried out for its own stated purpose.

Will cleaning solve poor water turnover?

No. Storage volume, use and pipework may need changes. Cleaning removes deposits but does not redesign the water system.
