AdBlue product quality and tank compatibility
AdBlue is a quality-controlled automotive urea solution used in SCR systems. Yara notes that contaminants can enter during transport, storage and dispensing, which is why compatible materials and clean handling equipment matter throughout the supply chain.
An AdBlue storage vessel should not be treated as interchangeable with a general-purpose water or fuel tank. Previous contents, transfer equipment, tank materials and cleaning residues can all affect whether the system remains suitable for AdBlue.
Crystal deposits and product contamination
Visible crystals around a tank or dispensing point do not, on their own, establish the quality of the liquid that remains. Clear-looking liquid is not proof that the required product quality has been maintained either.
Product and delivery history, test results and any known accidental addition can help distinguish local deposits from wider product contamination or an equipment fault. Those are separate findings even when they occur together.
Cleaning materials and connected equipment
Any cleaning material or method has to be compatible with the tank and with the product standard required afterwards. An unsuitable chemical, contaminated transfer equipment or another uncontrolled material can create a new contamination problem instead of resolving the original one.
Dispensing lines and other connected components may also retain contaminated product or residue. Removed liquid and rinsate require suitable recovery and assessment and should not be treated as clean water.
Condition before refill
Before refill, the relevant product-supplier, equipment and site requirements for the installation still apply. A visually clean tank is not certification of AdBlue quality and does not confirm that every connected component is ready to return to service.
